Tots Set to Grow Their Own!

Hundreds of pre school children in Wrexham will soon be growing their own 5 a day fruit and veg after their teachers and supervisors attended a workshop held by Humax and Wrexham County Borough Council's Early Education Scheme.

100 Nursery and Play School Teachers and Assistants attended 2 evening training events to teach them how to plant up Humax new Organic Vegetable Bags. Representing  2000 Nursery and Playschool Children, the teachers and assistants will be instrumental in using their new skills with youngsters growing vegetables as part of their spring and summer curriculum.

Stephen Hughes, representing Humax demonstrated how to use the bags for sowing and planting and all attendees received a selection of Organic Vegetable Bags and a variety of fruit and veg plants,  specially grown for the event by Medwyn Williams, MBE, Chairman of the National Vegetable Society and 10 times gold medal winner at the Chelsea show.

During the Workshop participants were told how children can benefit from growing their own produce and were given an introduction to Healthy Eating by Jonathan Miller and information about local organisations and the educational exhibits at the Llangollen Garden Show.

Heather Petrie, representing the Early Education Team, said "Healthy eating is high on everyone's agenda at the moment and it is important that children are introduced to the pleasures of growing their own fruit and vegetables at a very early age.   The Workshop was a great success and everyone was eager to get back to work and start sowing!"
